Custom stair treads
The stair frame is of steel within the wall. Each outrigger was a T section made of an "I" beam cut down the centre. Due to the challenge of making the steel structure, the timber treads had to be machined to compensate for errors in the steel. Five axis had to be compensated for. Firstly, the steel was accurately measured in 3D space and a 3D CAD file generated. Next the theoretical ideal placement of each tread was overlaid onto the insitu position of the steel. From this the compensation dimensions could be taken and the treaded routed to achieve, level, square from wall, twist, longitudinal spacing and horizontal spacing. The finished product is within 1mm in all 6 axis.
New Intensive Care Unit-Blantyre, Malawi
The brief was "a little piece of the west please". Easier said than done when the choice of materials is limited in country. But with the support and vision of management, this is the finished product. A 5 bed ICU. A few features are, Polyfloor sheet flooring, Copper (rat proof) plumbing through-out with a ring main for hot water, two Solarhart K type hot water units, IQ HEPA air filter units (2 supply and 2 polishing), SwitchDIM fluorescent lighting, Dysan Airblade hand dryers, Medical gas columns by HUTZ Medical, Each service column can support ten UK and 5 US electrical devices per bed. The shelving along each wall is silver ion coated and is self sterilising as are all the power switches and sockets. All specifications, design, CAD, procurement, clearing and customs done by myself. All floor laying, plumbing, electrical installation, partitioning, 1st fix and second fix also by myself.
Medical Gas plant -Blantyre, Malawi
This "work in progress" is being built to HTM 02-01 UK. It consists of 3 Atlas Copco Z screw compressors with full duplex medical filtration system. Vacuum is supplied by an AC 550 medical vacuum unit with three vacuum pumps. Included (not shown) in the system is an oxygen concentrator unit with a high pressure pump capable of filling 19.5 K size cylinder with 96% O2 per day. The oxygen concentrator has double backup in the form of an in situ twinx6 manifold backed up by an external manifold that will accept Afrox cylinders. The whole system has Beacon Medaes communication and 5 stage alarm system. This alarm system also includes the sone alarms for the distribution system. All design, procurement, and installation (physical, plumbing and electrical) done by myself.
